The Infrastructure Investment Programme is based on better long-term planning, encouragement of the best ideas and solutions and targeting investment to achieve the best outcomes for people, the national economy, regions and communities.  It is designed to ensure that Australia's national land transport system is far better placed to meet the challenges it faces.
The Infrastructure Investment Programme has the following core components relating to roads:

  • a defined National Network of important road infrastructure links;
  • the National Land Transport Plan which outlines the Government's approach to improving and integrating the National Network and the investments it will make;
