The Arnhem Highway upgrades will provide safety improvements including strengthening and widening on selected sections, floodway and culvert widening, overtaking lanes and truck parking bays.
Benifits will include:
- Safer operating widths and surfaces to accommodate heavy haulage including the expected significant increase in road trains from the quarry at Mt Bundy due to the INPEX development.
- Improved safety for businesses and tourist road users going to Kakadu and Arnhemland.
The Australian Government is providing $20 million to the upgrade.
Construction commenced in July 2012 and was completed in June 2014.
