The funding allowed planning and design works to be progressed towards the raising of the Bruce Highway across the Yeppen Floodplain. The future upgrade will involve construction of a two-lane road duplication of approximately 2.8km of the Bruce Highway across the Yeppen Floodplain from the Burnett Highway Intersection to the Yeppen Roundabout.
The new road will be built to a higher flood immunity level and will improve access to Rockhampton from the south and west.
The Australian Government has provided $5 million to the planning works in partnership with the Queensland Government.
Planning and design works were completed in August 2013.
