The project involved a program of works to provide additional overtaking lanes on the Newell Highway. The new overtaking lanes were constructed between:
- Moree and Boggabilla;
- Parkes and Dubbo; and
- Jerilderie and Morundah.
The overtaking lanes are expected to improve road safety by increasing opportunities for light vehicles to pass freight vehicles and large agricultural harvest equipment.
The project is funded with $5 million from interest earned on Australian Government pre-payments to projects on the Hume Highway.
The NSW Government is contributing $5 million to this project.
Construction commenced on 10 March 2014.
