The project will widen and strengthen the North West Coastal Highway between Minilya and Barradale, and construct two bridges over low-level floodway crossings between Barradale and Nanutarra.
The project will improve service reliability and reduce road closures on the highway. It will improve freight access and reduce freight costs to significant new resource operations in the eastern Pilbara and northern Gascoyne regions, and their supporting towns.
The Australian Government is contributing $100.7 million towards the $126.68 million project.
Construction on Stage 2 (Mia Mia to Barradale and Bridges at Cave Creek and Goodeman Creek, between Barradale and Nanutarra) commenced in March 2015. The bridge works commenced on 30 May 2015. Section 2 is expected to be completed by October 2016. This marks completion of the full project.
