This project involves the upgrade of 210 kilometres of the main access road from the Stuart Highway to Pukatja and improvements to 21 kilometres of community roads, including improvements to roads leading to airstrips in Pukatja, Umuwa, Fregon, Mimili and Indulkana, and to the Umuwa power station.
The project will provide community and emergency management access, better food supply reliability through improved freight access, and access to employment and economic opportunities.
The Australian Government is contributing $85 million towards the $106.25 million project.
Construction commenced in March 2017 and is expected to be completed by mid 2019.
