The project involves an upgrade and realignment of 3.5 kilometres of the Peak Downs Highway through the Eton Range section to address safety concerns.
The project will improve the safety and efficiency of the Peak Downs Highway to support development in local townships and enhance productivity in existing and future mining operations in the Bowen Basin and the Galilee Basin.
The Australian Government has committed $166.17 million to the project.
Construction commenced in April 2016 and is expected be completed mid 2019.
