The project is designed to unlock the potential benefits of the Outback Way to the Australian economy and indigenous and remote communities.
In particular, the project will provide benefits for the Northern Territory cattle, tourism, mining and freight industries.
The Australian Government is contributing up to $20 million towards these upgrades in partnership with the Northern Territory Government.
The Outback Way - Northern Territory project is being delivered in three stages from 2014-15 to 2016-17. Construction of stage one is complete, and stage two is expected to be completed by mid-2017. Stage three is expected to be completed by late-2017.
