The project will involve a range of transport and community infrastructure projects including upgrades on the Peninsula Developmental Road, which is the main access road into Cape York from the south. The project will see over 170 kilometres of road upgraded and sealed.
The project will improve accessibility to Cape York for the local community, and produce flow-on benefits to local industry, including mining.
The Australian Government has committed $208.4 million towards the Cape York Region Package in partnership with the Queensland Government.
Construction on sections of the Peninsula Developmental Road commenced mid-2014. Works under the Package will be rolled out progressively, and will be completed in mid-2019, weather permitting.
