Project Description

The project will complete the upgrade of the M80 Ring Road. It will widen and upgrade the remaining four sections between:

  • Sunshine Avenue and the Calder Freeway;
  • Princes Freeway and Western Highway;
  • Sydney Road and Edgars Road; and
  • Plenty Road and Greensborough Highway.

Benefits

The project is expected to reduce congestion by increasing capacity. The project is also expected to reduce travel times and improve safety. The completion of the full upgrade will enable these benefits to be realised across the entire corridor.

Funding

The estimated cost of the project is $1 billion. The Australian Government is contributing $500 million and the Victorian Government $500 million.

Timetable

Construction on the Sunshine Avenue to Calder Freeway section commenced on 2 October 2016 and is expected to be completed in late 2018. The three remaining sections are currently in planning with the full upgrade expected to be complete in late 2021.
