Increased population has ment that road is not fit for purpose due to increased traffic volumes. To improve road safety for road users and pedestrians, there is a need to increase the width of the road and install parking bays along the edge of the roadway. Footpath will also need to be relocated due to road widening. To increase pedestrian safety, street lights will need to be place at pedestrian crossings. This project is proposed to be completed by January 2017.
Reconstruct and widen road surface out to 14 metres from straight line kilometre 0.0 to staight line kilometre 0.310. Asphalt seal road surface. Install parking bays on both sides of project and line mark. Construct a concrete footpath on new alighment on the west side of road. Install street lighting at pedestrian crossings. Install a safety barrier on eastern side of Binda Place to reduce the risk of if vehicles were to lose control on the Great Northern Highway
Total cost of proposed project is $2,156,665
