The project will involve the replacement of the existing bridges at Big Horse Creek and Little Horse Creek crossings on the Victoria Highway, with new high level bridges and upgrades to the approach road to improve flood immunity.
The project will deliver new bridges that will be able to withstand up to a 1 in 20 years flood event. This will improve the level of the flood immunity of the Victoria Highway to provide more reliable access for road users, currently when the road floods, closures occur for up to four days. These upgrade will see this reduced to less than 12 hours.
The Australian Government has committed up to $20.01 million towards the project, in partnership with the Northern Territory Government.
Construction commenced in mid-2017, and is expected to be completed in late-2018.
