The project involves the grade separation of Nicholson Road and the Midland to Kwinana freight rail line at Canning Vale. A new road bridge over the rail line will be constructed to replace the existing level crossing. The WA Government has identified the crossing as the highest freight-related priority for grade separation of road over rail in Perth.
The project will address a significant black spot on the rail freight network and improve access to an important industrial area. It will improve the safety of road and rail movements, and reduce delay for road users.
The Australian Government is contributing $18 million towards the $36 million project.
Early works commenced in September 2016 and major construction commenced in December 2016. The project is expected to be completed in late 2018.
