The project involves the construction of a new link between Tiger Brennan Drive and Darwin CBD along with the completion of the duplication of Tiger Brennan Drive from Berrimah Road to the Darwin CBD. The upgrade will provide relief for the pressure on the CBD transport network that has resulted in declining levels of service and increasing delays.
This project is expected to deliver the following benefits:
- ease congestion and improve access to the Darwin CBD
- consistent and reliable travel times
- improved road infrastructure around Darwin CBD helps in attracting tourism and business and the flow on effects on business sustainability
The Australian Government is providing up to $29.5 million towards the project, with the Northern Territory Government providing $10.8 million and Darwin City Council providing $5 million.
Construction commenced in May 2018, and is expected to be completed in mid-2020.
