The project will upgrade nine sections of the Mount Dandenong Tourist Road between Montrose and Upper Ferntree Gully, east of Melbourne. The identified sections have been prioritised based on high risk areas for cyclists, and the scope of works will include shoulder construction and sealing, provision of indented bus bays, and erection of guard rails and retention walls.
The project is expected to improve safety for cyclists and motorists through better overtaking opportunities and reduced road congestion.
The estimated cost of the project is $10 million. The Australian Government contribution is capped at $10 million.
Construction on the project is expected to commence in early 2020 and be complete in late 2020.
