The project involves finalising planning approvals and commencing preconstruction works for a bypass around the township of Ararat, Victoria. The project is the next stage of an existing planning project to bypass the townships of Ararat and Beaufort, to which the Australian Government is contributing $3 million and the Victorian Government $1 million.
The project is expected to improve road safety, amenity and commercial opportunities for the town of Ararat by providing a bypass to redirect heavy vehicles.
The estimated cost of the project is $50 million. The Australian and Victorian governments are each contributing $25 million.
Planning for the project commenced in July 2017. The project is expected to be completed mid-2020.
