Infrastructure Investment response to COVID-19

The Government is working closely with state, territory and local governments to ensure the delivery of infrastructure projects, and to identify additional opportunities in the short term to support local jobs and firms.

In June 2020 the Australian Government announced a $1.5 billion infrastructure stimulus package:

  • $1 billion in funding for shovel ready projects that can commence within 6 months.
  • $500 million for Targeted Road Safety Works delivered by states and territories that can be completed within 12 months.

This funding forms part of the infrastructure pipeline and complements the Government's commitment of $2.5 billion for the Local Road and Community Infrastructure Program being delivered by local governments.

These projects are crucial for helping to secure jobs and support the national economy to bounce back after COVID-19 by ensuring the safe transport connections needed for all of Australia to keep moving.
