Infrastructure Investment Response to COVID-19

In June 2020, the Australian Government announced a $1.5 billion infrastructure stimulus package in response to COVID-19, including:

  • $1 billion for shovel-ready projects that can commence within 6 months; and
  • $500 million for Targeted Road Safety Works delivered by states and territories that can be completed within 12 months.

This funding is part of the Government’s $110 billion, ten-year rolling infrastructure pipeline.

This funding complements the Government's $2.5 billion commitment to local infrastructure projects delivered by local governments under the Local Road and Community Infrastructure Program.

These projects will help the Australian economy recover from the COVID-19 pandemic by creating jobs and strengthening the transport connections needed to keep moving.
