Project Description

The project involved a range of transport and community infrastructure projects including upgrades on the Peninsula Developmental Road, which is the main access road into Cape York from the south.  The project resulted in 173km of the road being upgraded and sealed.

The project improved accessibility to Cape York for the local community, and is producing flow-on benefits to local industry, including mining.

The Australian Government committed $220.8 million towards the Cape York Region Package in partnership with the Queensland Government.

Construction on sections of the Peninsula Developmental Road commenced mid-2014 and were completed in late 2019. The final community infrastructure works under the Package were completed in late 2020.
