Project Description

The existing sealed pavement is in a very poor condition. The existing seal has oxidised and has become brittle. This street is on the fringes of the Central Business District and is usually covered in small potholes. Council currently expends considerable patching resources maintaining this street.

It is proposed to undertake microsurfacing of the road pavement. Microsurfacing is bituminous based polymer binder applied as thin slurry. A 7mm aggregate is used which gives an impression of an asphalt surface. It has been proven to be an effective treatment for ravelling, oxidisation, fills ruts, restores profile, and improves roughness and skid resistance. It is more cost effective than asphalt resurfacing and saves more than 50 per cent of the life cycle costs compared to an asphalt overlay.
