Project DescriptionThis section of Ballendene Road consists of only a 4.2m wide bituminous surface. Currently vehicles have to drop at least one wheel off the pavement onto the batter and table drain to pass in this narrow section. This puts strains on the edge of the pavement which requires constant repairs and reduces safety to traffic especially to the heavy vehicles including school buses. Ballendene Road will ultimately become a B-double route after widening and or strengthening all the narrower and weeker sections along the road.
It is intended to widen the road formation to 8m with a 7m wide bitumen seal and a 0.5 metre unsealed shoulder on both sides. This project will include erecting & removing traffic control at the site, removing & reinstating signs & guideposts, clearing, excavation, adding gravel, widening the pavement, reconstructing the table drains, shaping, compacting, trimming and primersealing incorporating 10mm aggregates with a 5mm scatter coat. |
