Murdoch Drive is a single lane carriageway road, connecting North Circular Road to Forrest Circle. This road serves as a local distributor road and connects five different roads between the intersection of Forrest Circle and North Circular Road. During peak traffic times there are delays in right turn traffic movements from Murdoch Drive into Captains Way and right turn traffic movements from Captains Way into Murdoch Drive, due to a high traffic volume on Murdoch Drive. Although primarily occurring during peak traffic times, the Town is concerned that it could create unsafe traffic movements and/or inappropriate driver behaviour.
Hyder Consulting investigated and made a recommendation to upgrade the existing intersection to a roundabout to resolve all these issues. The benefits of a roundabout include an overall reduction in both vehicle and vehicle/pedestrian collisions, lower travel speeds, reduced delay from reduced stopping times and improved traffic flow.
Total cost of proposed project is $485,650
