This section of Greenethorpe -Bumbaldry Road consists of only a 6m wide bituminous surface. Currently vehicles have to drop at least one wheel off the sealed pavement onto shoulders to pass. Council has received numerous complaints that B-Double trucks use this road illegally. These put strains on the edge of the pavement which requires constant repairs and reduces safety to traffic especially to the heavy vehicles including school buses and grain trucks. Greenethorpe - Bumbaldry Road will ultimately become a B-double route after the completion of this project.
It is intended to widen the road formation to 9 metres with a 7 metres wide bitumen seal and a 1 metre unsealed shoulder on both sides. This project will include erecting & removing traffic control at the site, vegetation removal, removing & reinstating signs, guardrailing & guideposts, clearing, widening and strengthening the culverts, stabilising the floodway pavements, excavation, adding gravel, widening the pavement, reconstructing the table drains, shaping, compacting, trimming and primersealing incorporating 10mm aggregates with a 5mm scatter coat.
Total cost of proposed project is $760,000
