Project Description

South Road is a heavily used road by many vehicles as it links Loch to the Poowong area. Due to the amount of traffic, South Road has become a maintenance issue and has needed to be re-sheeted every three years to keep up with the wear on the road. The road has two very dangerous corners along it where there have been a number of near misses.

It is proposed to construct this section of gravel road to a width of 8.2 metres, being a 6.2 metre seal with 1 metre shoulders. The road pavement will consist of a 200 millimetre layer of Class 3 crushed rock and 100 millimetres of Class 2 crushed rock overlayed over the existing road pavement, with a 10 millimetre bitumen seal. All road crossing culverts will be replaced within this section of road, guardrail and signage will be added along the road where needed.
