Project Description

Tonkin Highway is part of Perth’s Principal Road Freight Network that serves key activity centres such as Perth Airport and the Kewdale Freight Terminal. The project will upgrade a section of the Tonkin Highway from Collier Road to the Great Eastern Highway. The upgrade is expected to resolve a ‘gap’ in service levels and infrastructure between two Australian Government funded projects - Gateway WA and NorthLink WA.

Improve Freight Efficiency, Connectivity and Travel Time:

  • improve freight efficiency and increase freight network capacity resulting in increased supply chain efficiency
  • improve connectivity between major freight infrastructure including ports, airports and commercial and industrial areas
  • reduce costs for heavy vehicle operators, companies and commuters as a result of reduced travel time
  • provide connectivity between the Gateway WA and NorthLink WA projects

Improve Local Amenities:

  • improve amenities for the local community, including improved bicycle and pedestrian pathways

The Australian Government has committed $145 million towards the $290 million project.
