This project is expected to deliver targeted upgrades on the Hume Freeway between Lithgow Street in Beveridge and the M80 Ring Road.
The Hume Freeway is a key freight corridor linking the Greater Melbourne region with New South Wales and Greater Sydney. This section of the Hume Freeway in the southbound direction carries approximately 2,500 vehicles during the morning peak and this is expected to increase to 4,300 by 2031.
Upgrades on this section of the freeway are expected to reduce travel times, improve freight efficiency and support future traffic demand.
The Australian Government will contribute up to 50 per cent, capped at $50 million.
The delivery schedule will be determined as planning on the project progresses and in consultation with the Victorian Government.
