Project Description

The project will upgrade and seal sections of the Pirlingimpi Access Road, Pickertaramoor Access Road and Paru Access Road on Melville Island.

Benefits

This project will (by improving roads on the island):

  • support economic growth opportunities, particularly those associated with the potential export of plantation timber
  • create local employment opportunities
  • provide all-weather access to Tiwi College on Melville Island

Funding

The Australian Government will contribute up to 80 per cent, capped at $60 million. The Northern Territory will provide 20 per cent of the project costs.
