Project DescriptionUpgrades to the Northern Roads Package includes Birralee Road (Westbury to Frankford), Frankford Road and Batman Highway to enable the corridor to cater for increased heavy vehicle movement supporting business and industry.
This first stage of works will include targeted shoulder widening, pavement rehabilitation and strengthening for approximately 10 kilometres along the Batman Highway to cater for increased heavy vehicle movement supporting business and industry. BenefitsImprove freight productivity as Birralee Road feeds into the Bass Highway at Westbury to support freight movement in agriculture and manufacturing industries. FundingThe Australian Government will contribute up to $44 million. The Tasmanian Government will contribute $11 million. TimetableConstruction commenced in January 2021 on the Batman Highway with further work required to finalise scope for Birralee and Frankford Roads. Works are expected to be complete in mid 2024. |
