The Karratha to Tom Price corridor is a key economic freight route that supports the mining industry. This project will deliver targeted upgrades to the Karratha to Tom Price Corridor.
The project will complete the upgrade of Stages 3 and 4 between Karratha and Tom Price (Manuwarra Red Dog Highway).
The additional funding will contribute to the delivery of Stage 2 works which include upgrades to the existing pavement to facilitate improved access for the increased heavy vehicle activity. It will also improve road access to mines currently under development on Stage 4.
Upgrades to this corridor will provide the following benefits:
- better connect regional communities
- provide a more reliable and safe road network
- improve access for higher capacity vehicles
- facilitate other economic opportunities
The Australian Government has committed $304 million towards the project.
The project is underway with stage 3 completed in late 2019 and stage 4 expected to be completed by mid 2025.
