This project will progressively seal approximately 48 kilometres of the Kennedy Developmental Road between Hughenden and The Lynd.
This project will improve productivity, resilience and safety of the Kennedy Developmental Road between Hughenden and The Lynd. Other benefits include:
- improved travel reliability by increasing flood immunity throughout the corridor
- improved reliability and efficiency of freight movements, and
- reduced whole-of-life asset management costs by sealing unsealed sections that incur regular damage due to wet season effects.
The Australian Government has committed $270 million towards the Tennant Creek to Townsville Corridor, of which $200 million has been committed to Queensland ($40 million to this project) and $70 million to the Northern Territory.
Construction commenced in July 2020 and is expected to be completed by late 2023, weather permitting.
