Project DescriptionUpgrades will focus on the key freight route on Illawarra Road between the Bass and Midland Highways. Project detail yet to be determined. BenefitsThe upgrades are expected to prioritise widening, improving and adding protected overtaking lanes to the section from Bass Highway to Longford, and to improve and shorten the route for both freight and passenger vehicles. FundingThe estimated cost of the project is $80 million. The Australian Government is contributing $64 million and the Tasmanian Government $16 million. TimetableConstruction is expected to commence in late 2021 with construction expected to be completed by mid 2023.
