Project Description

This project will refit important safety, communications and electrical systems in the Heysen Tunnel that are approaching end of life, and provide a fire deluge system as required for a major tunnel refit under Australian Standard.


Benefits include improved road safety for all road users and improved efficiency and network reliability.


This Australian Government has committed $12 million and the South Australian Government has commited $3 million to this project.


This project is expected to commence in mid 2021 and be completed by late 2021.
