Project Description

This project will upgrade Bald Nob Road between the New England Highway and the Gwydir Highway, north of Glen Innes. This is expected to include rehabilitation of around 6 kilometres of pavement on Bald Nob Road, as well as other safety improvements to bring the road up to current standards, such as widening and realignment.

This road saves 36 kilometres of travel distance for freight vehicles travelling between Brisbane and Grafton, but has deteriorated and needs to be upgraded to meet current demand.

The project will upgrade the road to required standards, improving travel times, freight efficiency and safety for all road users.

The Australian Government has committed $4.48 million towards the Bald Nob Road upgrade, under the Roads of Strategic Importance (ROSI) initiative. The remaining funding will be contributed by the Glen Innes Severn Council.

The project is expected to commence in late 2022 and be completed in late 2023.
