Project Description

This project will upgrade Sunnyside Platform Road, north of Tenterfield. This includes the widening of about 2 kilometres of the road, remediation of failed pavement, upgrade of intersections at each end of the road, construction of a sealed school bus stop area, providing a pavement overlay, drainage, and providing a new seal and linemarking.

This road saves 9.5 kilometres in travel for northbound vehicles, but needs to be upgraded to be used safely by B-double freight vehicles.

The project will upgrade Sunnyside Platform Road to required standards, improving freight efficiency and safety for all road users. It will also reduce transport operating costs.

The Australian Government has committed $1.5 million towards this project, under the Roads of Strategic Importance (ROSI) initiative. The remaining funding will be contributed by the Tenterfield Shire Council.

The project commenced in early 2022 and is expected to be completed late 2022.
