Hyden Norseman Road (rural road) - 134939-25WA-RTR
This section of road (8.40 kilometers to 13.97 kilometers) forms part of a key mining haul and tourism route within the Shire of Dundas. The road provides access to four local destinations frequently visited by both heavy vehicles and tourists, including mine sites, pastoral properties, and natural attractions. Due to sustained heavy haulage from mining operations combined with tourist traffic, the gravel pavement and drainage infrastructure have deteriorated. The existing formation exhibits: Significant surface corrugation and rutting, creating unsafe conditions for both heavy and light vehicles. Poor drainage and inadequate table drain causing water to pond and flow across the formation during rain events. Shoulder erosion and scouring, leading to edge drop-offs and reduced road width. Dust generation, especially near the truck stopping areas, affecting visibility and road safety. The proposed works aim to stabilise and reshape the formation, improve drainage, and provide a designated dust-down area to ensure safe, reliable, and all-weather access for both industrial and tourist traffic. The proposed works involve the rehabilitation and improvement of 5.57 kilometers of gravel road between chainages 8.40 kilometers and 13.97 kilometers, addressing drainage, safety, and surface condition issues caused by mining haulage and mixed traffic use.
