About the Active Transport Fund (ATF)

The ATF provides funding for the design and construction of new or existing bicycle and walking pathways to encourage the use of active transport. Through the program, $100 million in funding will be available from 2024-25 to 2028-2029. More information on the program is available on the Active Transport Fund web page.

How to apply for the ATF

The program is an application-based, merit-assessed funding program, open to all state and territory governments and Local Government Authorities (LGAs). Applications must be for bicycle or walking pathways and must directly address at least one of the program’s focus areas which are linked to active transport priorities.

The focus areas for the program are:

  • road safety
  • reducing transport emissions
  • active and liveable communities

Applications must be submitted through the department’s online portal unless otherwise advised by the department: Infrastructure Management System (IMS) online portal.

Applications should not be submitted via email to the department.

The ATF is now open for applications and closes on 13 January 2025 at 11:59pm (AEDT).
