The 1,673 kilometre Bruce Highway is Queensland's major north-south road corridor, connecting coastal population centres from Brisbane to Cairns and supporting around 58 per cent of the population in Queensland.
The highway provides critical linkages for freight movements between inland production areas and eleven coastal ports and major regional centres along Queensland. It is also a major commuter and tourism route.
Bruce Highway Upgrade Program
Since 2013-14, the Australian Government has committed over $10 billion towards the Bruce Highway Upgrade Program. The program will improve safety, reduce congestion and improve flood immunity along the corridor from Brisbane to Cairns.
Projects funded under the program include major upgrades and realignments, strengthening and widening works, pavement rehabilitation plus a range of safety measures such as overtaking lanes, barriers and rest areas to reduce the number of serious and fatal crashes along the length of the Bruce Highway.
Projects are jointly funded in partnership with the Queensland Government and delivered through the following corridor packages under the Infrastructure Investment Program:
- Bruce Highway South (63.05 KB)
- Bruce Highway Central (62.96 KB)
- Bruce Highway North (60.44 KB)
- Bruce Highway Safety Package (53.8 KB)
