The Australian Government makes nationally significant investments in land transport infrastructure across Australia through its over $120 billion infrastructure investment pipeline.
These projects aim to improve the productivity, resilience, liveability and sustainability of Australia’s land transport networks by working with states and territories to deliver nationally significant infrastructure that supports communities, businesses and economic growth.
Communities will continue to benefit from the pipeline through shorter and safer travel, more liveable cities, suburbs and regions, while the economy benefits from the certainty brought by a smoother delivery of investment matched to project timelines.
At a national level, the Government is investing in transport infrastructure that supports economic growth, strengthens freight connectivity and enhances the performance of road and rail networks across metropolitan, regional and remote Australia. The Government is also committed to reducing serious injuries and fatalities on our roads under the Road Safety Program.
The Government's investments are informed by long-term planning, robust project identification and assessment processes. This approach provides certainty for stakeholders, allowing industry to efficiently manage skills and resources, and allowing state and territory governments to consider the most effective sequencing of major projects to maintain capacity in the construction sector. The program is designed to ensure that Australia’s national land transport system is well-placed to meet future challenges.
