Melton Road, Nundah - 113272-20QLD-RTR
The Melton Road and Hows Road intersection carries more than 15,000 vehicles, 35 cyclists and approximately 130 pedestrians daily. Melton Road is the major road providing a north – south corridor, connecting the suburbs of Northgate and Nundah, carrying approximately 10,000 vehicles. Hows Road provides an east – west connection between the local residential areas. Currently, traffic on Hows Road has right of way with stop signs controlling movements on Melton Road resulting in significant queuing during morning and afternoon peak hours, which exceeds capacity. Additionally, Melton Road is staggered and misaligned with Hows Road at the intersection with poor sightlines, creating safety issues for all road users. The project involves: • Reconstructing the intersection of Melton Road and Hows Road to replace lines and signs to a roundabout controlled intersection • Construction of splitter islands and pedestrian refuges on all approaches to the roundabout • Constructing a new 2.5-metre-wide shared path on Melton Road and 1.5-metre-wide footpath on Hows Road, to connect to existing footpaths in the area around the intersection • installing on and off bike ramps on Melton Road to enable cyclists to use the shared path through the intersectionTotal cost of proposed project is $5,223,626
