Brooke Street, Barmera - 137855-26SA-RTR

Brooke Street in Barmera is predominantly treated with a spray seal surface however approximately 350 metres of the road remains unsealed. This unsealed section services existing industrial businesses and adjoins land where additional industrial developments are expected to commence construction in the near future. The project will involve grading the existing material to a width of 8 to 10 metres to establish a suitable subgrade. A 150 mm layer of 32 mm crushed rock will then be constructed to an 8 metre width to provide a stable pavement base. The road will be finished with a 6.2 metre wide two coat 14/7 spray seal treatment. The proposed pavement width will also provide approximately 800mm un sealed shoulders on either side of the traffic lanes improving pedestrian safety. Completing this section of Brooke Street will eliminate the remaining gap in the sealed road network improve access for industrial traffic and heavy vehicles, reduce dust and ongoing maintenance requirements and support the continued growth. Upon completion of the spray seal works the project will include the installation of line marking and all required advisory signage to ensure the road complies with current standards. These finishing works will provide clear traffic guidance improve safety for motorists and pedestrians and deliver a fully operational sealed road.

Crossing Road (Rural Road) - 137834-25SA-RTR

Crossing Road is currently an unsealed road that is prone to erosion, potholes and general wear, resulting in a rough and potentially unsafe driving surface. During dry weather, the unsealed section also generates significant dust, impacting nearby residents and road users. To improve safety, durability and driving conditions, Council will undertake the following road upgrade works. The existing unsealed road base will be graded to a maximum width of 8 metres. This process will create a smooth, level surface that provides a stable foundation for the subsequent pavement layers. Grading will also ensure proper alignment and compaction of the road base. Following grading, a 150 mm layer of crushed rock base will be placed over the road. This capping layer will strengthen the pavement, improve drainage and reduce the risk of erosion and long-term surface deterioration. A bitumen seal will then be applied to the upgraded 1400 metre section of road, with a sealed carriageway width of 6.2 metres. The sealed surface will provide a durable, all-weather pavement that significantly reduces maintenance requirements, eliminates dust and improves ride quality for all road users including heavy freight movements. To further enhance safety 800-900mm wide shoulders will be constructed on both sides of the road. These shoulders provide additional recovery space for motorists, improve visibility, offer safer areas for emergency stopping, and create a buffer between moving traffic and pedestrians or cyclists where required.
