Curtis Road, Munno Para West - 053242-14SA-RTR
The Curtis Rd/ Stebonheath Rd roundabout has failed and poses a risk to road users. The opening of the Northern Expressway (which Curtis Rd feeds into) as well as rapid development of Munno Para West and surrounding outer northern suburbs has resulted in a large increase in traffic using this roundabout. The increase in vehicle loading has seen structural failure of the roundabout. The road pavement through the roundabout has failed by cracking, potholes, and shoving, resulting in an uneven surface. The roundabout annulus kerb has become cracked and broken, with parts of the concrete spalling or becoming dislodged. City of Playford conducted a road safety audit at the site, which highlighted a number of additional items of concern. These included the proximity of footpaths and drainage structures to the carriageway and the inadequacy of existing fencing and guard rails.Works will include a new deep lift asphalt pavement, designed to cater for the increased traffic loads, and will be substantially stronger than the existing. It will also include new roundabout annulus kerbing using high strength concrete. The roundabout will be a mountable type with concrete infill, allowing for it to be trafficked by the large commercial vehicles, such as the trucks carrying transportable homes that use this route. Additional works will include: reconstruction of kerb along the approach roads (approximately 30 m in each direction), realigning footpath, kerb ramps, fencing and the provision of guard rails. A check of the existing lighting provisions will be conducted, with lighting upgrade only if required. Council will contribute funds for any aesthetic improvements at this location.Total cost of proposed project is $400,000

To address the structural integrity of the road pavement due to soil movement from very reactive soil. This road has a severe environmental deformation and cracking with moderate load induce cracking. Surface texture has a severe defect. Council's Pavement Management System has indicated that this road is warranted for total road reconstruction. The work will involve a full road reconstruction by total excavation of road base and replacement with a deeper granular pavement to ensure the structure and integrity of the road from possible future soil movement. The works include replacing existing kerbs, driveway, traffic control and improving the drainage system. The road pavement being treated is 281 m in length and 7.4 m in width. The additional costs required to fund the remaining portion of the project will be supplied by Campbelltown Council and this $216,990 has been budgeted for.Total cost of proposed project is $640,374
