Napperby Road, Alice Springs - 132615-25NT-RTR
Napperby Road plays an important role in regional connectivity and access. Its significance includes: 1. Access to remote communities - connects Laramba community and pastoral property to essential services. Provides vital access to Napperby station and surroundings pastoral land. 2. Link to regional centre - Acts as a connection route from remote community to Alice Springs, supporting travel for health education and commerce. 3. Economic Support - Support livestock transport, especially during mustering season, making it critical pastoral operations. 4. Emergency and service access - Ensure access for emergency vehicles, health workers, utility services and maintenance crews during critical events or breakdowns. The proposed works aim to address several key road condition issues that are impacting safety, accessibility, and serviceability: 1. Scattered Depression - Localised low points in the road surface are causing rough driving conditions and contributing to water retention. These depressions reduce ride quality, increase wear on vehicle and pose a risk to driver safety. 2. Depression - Uneven surfaces where high and low points alternate lead to abrupt vertical movements, affecting vehicle stability and increasing risk of loss control. 3. Water ponding - Poor surface shape and drainage are causing water to collect in depressions, especially after rainfall. Standing water weakens the pavement structure, promotes pothole formation and may render the road impassable. Number of days road closed in the last 5 years: 23 days Number of days road restricted to vehicles mass/axle per year over last 5 years: 50 days The proposed works will improve road safety and longevity by re-establishing proper surface shape, enhancing, drainage and eliminating localised failures. The works will ensure a smoother, more reliable driving surface and improve year-round access for people living in community.Gravel re-sheeting from 21 to 27 kilometres and construction of concrete margin on floodway at 59.3 kilometres.
