The project undertook planning and detailed design for the Rockhampton Ring Road. The project considered options for the construction of roads and bridges in order to provide a Q100 immunity sealed highway west of Rockhampton. The project also considered options for sealing works, road reconfigurations, the installation of a flood height monitoring system, relocation of services, delivery of service facilities, intersection upgrades, and the construction of new intersections, riverbank upgrades and upgrades to connection roads.
The Rockhampton Ring Road construction project will enhance capacity, safety and accessibility of the road network in Rockhampton by removing trucks from suburban streets, reduce travel times and congestion, and improve flood immunity on this section of the Bruce Highway.
The Australian Government has committed $28.4 million towards the $35.5 million planning project, in partnership with the Queensland Government.
The planning project commenced in December 2016 and was completed in June 2021.
