About the Safer Local Roads Infrastructure Program (SLRIP)
The SLRIP provides funding for projects to address current and emerging priorities in road infrastructure needs.
SLRIP has 4 objectives that are linked to road infrastructure priorities:
- road safety
- productivity
- road resilience
- sustainability.
The program funds projects under three project streams:
- Road construction and upgrades
- Bridge renewal
- Heavy vehicle facilities
It is an ongoing, application-based, merit-assessed, funding program, open to all state and territory governments and Local Government Authorities (LGAs).

How to apply for the SLRIP
Information on project eligibility can be found in the Program Guidelines below.
Tranche 6 of the SLRIP will open from 1 September 2026 until 5:00pm (AEDT) 31 January 2027.
Applications must be submitted via the Reporting and Program Management (RPM) portal. The latest application form must be used and can be accessed through RPM.

Webinar for potential applicants
The department is hosting a webinar about the SLRIP on 14 September 2026 for state and territory governments and Local Government Authorities (LGAs). The webinar will outline information about the program, eligibility requirements and how to apply.
Invitations to register will be sent to state and territory governments and LGAs, ahead of the date.
The webinar will be recorded and published on this page after the event.

| The Request for Tender Exemption form is to seek an exemption from the requirement to call for public tenders. The form also explains when an exemption may not be required. |
Milestone Claim Form - docx

| The Milestone Claim Form is used to claim a milestone payment. The completed form, along with supporting evidence must be sent directly to the Department at the contact details provided below or for LGA-led projects, to the relevant state/territory agency (if required by them). |

| The Project Variation Request form must be used to request a change in scope, cost and/or schedule of an approved project. |

Quarterly Reporting Template - docx

| The Quarterly Reporting Form is for LGA proponents to report through their relevant state or territory agency. |
Post Completion Report - docx

| The Post Completion Report provides a summary of key features of the project and how it met the objectives of the program. It must be submitted with the milestone claim form to claim the final milestone payment. The Department will review this evidence and the final milestone will be paid upon acceptance of this evidence. An expenditure or transaction report may also be required, the Department will provide guidance on this if needed. |

Administrative arrangements for the Bridges Renewal Program (BRP) and Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program (HVSPP)
The SLRIP consolidates the BRP and HVSPP into a single program. Existing BRP and HVSPP projects will be delivered in accordance with the guidelines and funding agreement under which they were approved. To streamline reporting processes, BRP and HVSPP projects will move to quarterly reporting as outlined in the SLRIP Guidelines.

Previous guidelines for BRP (prior to 2021)
BRP previously accepted applications through time-limited funding rounds. Since the program commenced in 2015, five funding rounds have been undertaken. From 2021, applications were invited on an ongoing basis.
