To address the structural integrity of the road pavement due to soil movement from very reactive soil. This road has a severe environmental deformation and cracking with moderate load induce cracking. Surface texture has a severe defect. Council's Pavement Management System has indicated that this road is warranted for total road reconstruction. The work will involve a full road reconstruction by total excavation of road base and replacement with a deeper granular pavement to ensure the structure and integrity of the road from possible future soil movement. The works include replacing existing kerbs, driveway, traffic control and improving the drainage system. The road pavement being treated is 247 m in length and 7.6 m in width. Hanson Road, Elizabeth Downs - 053243-14SA-RTR
In 2009 the previous Hanson Rd/ Uley Rd roundabout was demolished by Council due to its poor condition and concerns for community safety. Unfortunately Council did not have sufficient budget at that time to fully reconstruct the roundabout, so a replacement was installed using a temporary treatment (rubber rumble strips). This temporary treatment is not appropriate for long term service and Council now wishes to reconstruct a fully functioning concrete roundabout that meets modern standards. In addition, the adjacent section of Hanson Road in unkerbed, resulting in drainage, road maintenance and access issues for this important school bus route.Construct a concrete roundabout in place of the existing temporary traffic control devices, as well as associated works such as line marking, signage and a review of current lighting arrangements. Install new kerb to the eastern side of Hanson Rd from Uley Rd to McKenzie Rd (approximately 480 m) and carry out associated works including: pits and minor drainage works to connect to existing, seal adjacent gravel footpath (approximately 220 m), kerb ramps and bus pads. Council will contribute funds for any aesthetic improvements at this location, such as street tree planting and bus shelter.Total cost of proposed project is $405,000
