Bassham Road, Barmera - 130546-24SA-RTR
The unsealed section of Bassham Road is prone to erosion, potholes, and wear, leading to a rough and unsafe drive, and typically requires more frequent grading and maintenance. In dry weather, the unsealed section tends to create significant dust. Having bitumen along Bassham Road and then the remaining being unsealed causes a disruption in road quality, making it uncomfortable or hazardous for drivers when transitioning between surfaces.Grading the existing unsealed road base to a maximum width of 8 metres. This will help create a smooth, level surface that can support the subsequent layers of road treatment. The grading will ensure proper alignment and compaction, offering a stable foundation for the roads upgrade. A 150 mm layer of crushed rock base will be applied over the graded section. This capping will not only improve the structural integrity of the road but also provide better drainage, reducing the likelihood of erosion and surface degradation over time. Balance of project costs paid by Council. A bitumen seal will be applied over the upgraded section of the road, extending over 795 metres in length. The seal will cover a width of 6.2 metres, which is wide enough to ensure smooth driving conditions. The bitumen seal will provide a durable, low-maintenance surface that resists weather-related wear, increasing the longevity of the road and reducing the need for frequent repairs. A shoulder width of 900 mm will be incorporated on each side of the road. This is a crucial safety feature that offers additional space for motorists and pedestrians, improving visibility and reducing the risk of accidents. Wider shoulders will allow for safer stopping areas, especially in emergency situations, and will provide a buffer between moving traffic and pedestrians or cyclists. Balance of the project will be funded by ratepayer funds.Total cost of proposed project is $154,343
Davis Road, Winkie - 130552-24SA-RTR
Dust from vehicle traffic along Davis Road greatly reduce visibility, particularly in dry conditions, creating safety risks for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. The change from unsealed Davis Road to the sealed Dalziel Road and Chapple Road creates a hazardous transition for drivers, particularly when there’s a difference in speed or handling expectations. One of the key benefits of sealing Davis Road is that it will eliminate the need for regular re-sheeting programs that are typical for unsealed roads. The existing material on Davis Road will be graded to a width of 8 metres to ensure a stable foundation for the new road surface. A 150 mm layer of crushed rock will be laid down to create a durable base for the road, improving its structural integrity. The final road surface will be treated with a 6.2-metre-wide spray seal (14/7 aggregate), covering approximately 1.2 km of Davis Road. This treatment will provide a smooth, durable surface that will significantly enhance safety and ride quality. The 900 mm shoulder on each side of 6.2 metre seal treatment on Davis Road will provide an additional buffer zone for drivers and pedestrians.
