Project description

The current road is unsealed and very narrow (only 7 metres wide in some sections). The road has an undulating vertical and horizontal alignment, restricting sight and traversing several watercourses, which often cause closure of the road, due to flood damage.

The work proposed includes improving the vertical and horizontal alignment of the road, using the existing road reserves and minor land acquisitions. It is also proposed to instal 31 culverts to accommodate watercourse crossings, widen the road to 11 metres, seal the road and increase the design speed from 80 kilometres per hour to 100 kilometres per hour. The project will run over four years from 2011-12 to 2014-15 and be funded with $768,000 out of the Special Local Roads Program for 2011-12. $375,000 will be provided out of the Financial Assistance Grants and $393,000 funded out of the Roads to Recovery grants.

Total cost of proposed project is $4,070,000
