Project description

Road profile is not to current standards. Roadway surface has reached the end of its serviceable life. Kerbing and footpath on eastern side is undulating and in poor condition. Road lighting is poor.

Reconstruct 2789 sqm of road pavement,replace 676sqm of road surface with new 80mm thick paving,replace 2113sqm of road surface with 30mm thick hotmix paving, replace 868sqm of footpath with paving, replace 331m of kerbing. Upgrade drainage system to current required standards. Upgrade road lighting to current standards. Incorporate landscaping and water sensitive urban design features to roadway.

Total cost of proposed project is $1,679,070

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
