Project description

The project constructed approximately 22 kilometres of four lane divided road, built to Class-M (motorway) standard, from south of the North Coast rail overbridge at Nambucca Heads to the existing interchange with Waterfall Way at Raleigh. New grade-separated interchanges have been constructed at Nambucca Heads and at Ballards Road, south of Urunga. The upgrade also includes a new combined heavy and light vehicle rest area near Nambucca Heads and a major crossing of the Kalang River.

The project has improved road safety, reduced travel times, reduced freight transport costs and improved economic efficiency.

Funding

The total cost of the project is $628.0 million. The Australian Government is providing $314.0 million and the NSW Government is providing $314.0 million towards the construction of the project.

Timetable

Lend Lease Engineering was awarded the contract to design and construct the project on 3 June 2013. Major works commenced on 15 January 2014 and the project was opened to traffic on 22 July 2016. Post opening finishing works have been completed and the project was fully opened at 110km/hour on 9 November 2016.
