Project description

The road is currently unsealed and subject to a large volume of local and tourist traffic, including heavy vehicle movement as it provides access to a number of primary producer's properties. This traffic is causing potholes and corrugations in the road surface, and requires frequent patrol grading & maintenance to ensure the surface integrity.

Converting unsealed gravel road to sealed road to improve amenities for traffic - 10000m x 8m wide - 14/7mm 2 coat seal.

Total cost of proposed project is $326,096

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
