Project description

This section of road is badly distressed, with poor surface and narrow. Pavement failure has been accelerated by construction traffic associated with construction of new sewerage treatment plant. Existing timber bridge is in poor state of repair.

Council to construct new concrete bridge. Reconstruct approaches to suit new bridge for distance of 30 metres. Widen and reconstruct existing road pavement and provide new bitumen seal.

Total cost of proposed project is $403,707

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
